Password Protected Directories
Understand more details on password-protected directories as well as what they bring to your website.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that may be accessed only when a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized people may see its content. This function can be used for the main folder of a particular site or exclusively for a certain subfolder based on your requirements. As an example, if you are building a new site and you do not want people to see it before it is 100% ready, you might want to restrict the access to it altogether, while if you need only some individuals to be able to access particular files, you are able to password-protect only a certain folder, while the rest of the site may be seen by everybody. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear if the login details the visitor inputs are not accurate. Even a direct link to a file shall not work given that any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Web Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take merely several mouse clicks and a few seconds if you host your sites within a web hosting account with our company. You will not need to do anything complex - you will have to pick a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it must be secured, and then to input the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. When a number of people need their own login details, there shall not be a problem to create numerous different usernames with access to the same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this feature is activated. If you'd like to deactivate the security feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the same exact section of the CP where you have enabled it.
